Summary: The AI Software Engineer role is a contract position focused on hands-on development within a newly established AI team at a large Scottish enterprise. The position requires strong .NET development skills, along with Python and AI experience, to deliver initiatives from a defined roadmap. The role is primarily remote with occasional on-site requirements in Glasgow. This opportunity emphasizes building genuine agentic AI systems rather than merely designing them.
Key Responsibilities:
- Join a small AI team and own one initiative end-to-end, from design to production build.
- Deliver initiatives that include product/sales automation, data-heavy telemetry and analytics, and agentic workflow builds.
- Design, build, and deploy genuine agentic AI systems.
- Work primarily within Azure AI Foundry and Semantic Kernel, with flexibility to use AWS and Google Vertex/Gemini.
- Engage in some Front End work in .NET MVC alongside Python-first Back End and AI development.
Key Skills:
- Strong hands-on .NET development background (MVC).
- Solid Python development skills, ideally with production LLM/GenAI experience.
- Proven experience designing, building, and deploying agentic AI systems.
- Comfortable working across cloud platforms, preferably Azure, but also AWS and Google Cloud.
- Self-sufficient and capable of independently managing projects with minimal oversight.

AI Software Engineer - Contract (Inside IR35)
Up to £650/day Inside IR35 6 months (strong likelihood of extension) Mostly remote - 2 days/month in Glasgow bi-weekly.
Our client, a large Scottish enterprise business, has established a new AI function. This is a genuine hands-on build opportunity - not a design-and-handoff role - sitting within a defined, multi-initiative roadmap with a clear pipeline of work well beyond the initial contract term. This role calls for a strong .NET developer who also brings Python and AI/agentic experience - .NET is the priority skill, with AI depth as the key differentiator.
- You'll join a small, newly-formed AI team (three engineers plus a manager) where each person owns one initiative end-to-end, from design through to production build. This is a hands-on implementation role for someone who wants to build, not just architect.
- Own and deliver one initiative from the roadmap end-to-end - options span product/sales automation, a data-heavy telemetry and analytics build, and an agentic workflow build for a legal function
- Design, build, and deploy genuine agentic AI systems - not just chatbot or single-turn LLM integrations
- Work primarily within Azure AI Foundry and Semantic Kernel for orchestration, with the flexibility to draw on AWS and Google Vertex/Gemini where relevant (enterprise accounts already in place across all three)
- Some Front End work in .NET MVC (internal-facing tooling), alongside Python-first Back End and AI/agentic development
What We're Looking For
- Strong hands-on .NET development background (MVC)
- Solid Python development skills, ideally with production LLM/GenAI experience
- Proven experience designing, building, and deploying agentic AI systems - RAG pipelines, tool-using agents, multi-step orchestration - is a strong differentiator between candidates
- Comfortable working across cloud platforms - Azure preferred, but AWS and Google Cloud experience is equally valued
- Self-sufficient and comfortable owning a project independently, with minimal day-to-day oversight
The Details
- Rate: £550- £650/day, dependent on experience
- Contract: Inside IR35
- Duration: 6 months initial, with strong likelihood of extension given the volume of roadmap work
- Location: mostly remote - approximately 1-2 days per month required on-site in Glasgow
