Summary: The Cross Sectional Deputy Superintendent at University Hospitals Dorset is responsible for supporting the CT and MRI departments, managing staff, and ensuring high-quality patient care. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support staff in rotating throughout the CDC site and new BEACH trauma unit.
  • Assume Superintendent duties during absences, sickness, or annual leave.
  • Organize day-to-day workload to accommodate clinical priorities.
  • Manage staff absences, including sickness and annual leave requests.
  • Conduct Return to Work Interviews and complete relevant online forms.

Detailed Description From Employer:

An opportunity has arisen for a Cross Sectional Deputy Superintendent at University Hospitals Dorset, Base Location: Poole Hospital.

Our Trust is based across two large hospitals, the Royal Bournemouth and Poole Hospitals with a CDC site at Bournemouth and a new CDC currently in development near the Poole site. Across the organisation we have 9 Canon CT scanners, 4 Siemens MRI scanners, 2 Phillips MRI scanners and an Esaote Extremity MRI scanner. This position is primarily based at the Poole site.

For CT, we perform a large number of orthopaedic, neuro and chest/body studies, as well as specialist examinations such as cardiac, angiography, colonography and ablations. In MRI we have the opportunity to perform orthopaedic, spine, angio, liver, cardiac, breast, prostate, head & neck and arthrography. In fact, there is not a great deal of cross sectional examinations that we are not undertaking here.

This role required state registration with Health Professions Council

Deputy to the Superintendent Radiographer within the CT and MRI department.

Support the staff in rotating throughout the CDC site and new BEACH trauma unit at the Bournemouth site.

Take on the Superintendent duties in times of absence, sickness or annual leave.

Be able to work in a job share role, maintaining high levels of communication and professionalism.

Maintain a confidential and discreet approach where required.

Organise the day-to-day workload to accommodate clinical priorities, negotiating changes to the planned work rota where required.

Manage all aspects of staff absences including sickness plus granting, recording or refusing annual leave.

Hold Return to Work Interviews and complete the relevant online form with staff following periods of sickness absence.

Make decisions regarding staff levels, skill mix, annual leave requests, shift swaps and WLI allocation, updating Health Roster as necessary.

Manage bank and agency staff, assign duties where required and ensure up to date competencies.

Liaise with locum agencies for booking of their staff and update our staff rota and capacity & demand records.

Schedule the annual appraisals of all CT and MRI staff members and appraise staff to ensure on-going competencies.

Provide and monitor training for new staff, including completion of local induction and additional relevant competencies.

Record and schedule mandatory training dates for CT & MRI staff.

Maintain and keep up to date records of all Staff Competencies.

Undertake IV Cannulation and IV therapy assessments for new and existing staff.

Investigate and respond to LERN forms from both our staff and those from other hospital wards and departments.

Schedule, attend and chair staff meetings.

Be willing to have difficult conversations with staff when required around sensitive subjects, such as poor performance, timekeeping, appearance, not being able to have leave when desired.

Be willing to talk to patients who raise complaints and help de-escalate and resolve difficult situations.

Create and update SOPs, policies, PGDs and other departmental protocols.

Report faults to manufacturers and schedule breakdown fixes and routine maintenance visits, updating our records including capacity impacts.

Ensure departmental audits are undertaken and updated on the Radiology Audit Schedule, such as compliance audit, document acknowledgement, extravasaton

Shortlist and interview prospective radiographers and CSWs into our team.

Work with the team at Poole with the aim of service improvement and amalgamation of systems.

Attend the monthly Quality and Risk Forum with a report from CT & MRI.
