Senior Embedded Systems Consultant – Linux / FPGA / RF – Contract – Hybrid (Cambridge) We're looking for a Senior Embedded Systems Consultant to support the delivery of complex sensing, communications, and embedded technology projects within a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy.
This is a technically broad, customer-facing contract role that sits across Embedded Linux, FPGA, DSP, and RF engineering.
Rather than acting as a deep specialist in a single discipline, you'll provide technical oversight across projects, helping multidisciplinary teams integrate hardware and software, solve complex system-level challenges, and deliver robust engineering solutions.
Working closely with customers and engineering teams, you'll contribute throughout the project lifecycle, from early technical discussions and solution architecture through to integration, validation, and delivery.
Skills & Experience
- Essential:
- Strong Embedded Linux development experience, including ARM-based SoCs, kernel-space, user-space, and device trees
- Broad embedded software background including Embedded C/C++, RTOS, and hardware/software integration
- Experience working across multidisciplinary engineering teams involving software, FPGA, electronics, and systems engineering
- Ability to troubleshoot complex system-level issues spanning hardware and software
- Experience working directly with customers, gathering technical requirements, and providing engineering guidance
- Comfortable operating within a consultancy or project-based engineering environment
- Desirable:
- FPGA or DSP development experience (AMD/Xilinx, Vivado or similar)
- RF systems knowledge, ideally communications, radar, sensing, or antenna technologies
- Yocto experience
- Knowledge of OpenCPI, STICS, SOSA, or similar open architecture standards
- Python or C# for tooling and automation
- Experience with board bring-up, device drivers, communications protocols, or embedded algorithms
