Role Purpose

We have developed a 3 year Digital and Data Strategy to transform the way we work. We need an experienced Enterprise Architect to help us transition from strategy development to delivery by embedding Enterprise Architecture capability, completing capability assessments, producing detailed target architectures, and governing implementation of the Digital and Data Strategy.

Key Responsibilities/deliverables

Strategy Translation & Roadmaps

• Refine and present capability assessments and high-level roadmaps for Digital & Data Strategy themes
• Develop detailed multi-year (Years 1-3) architecture-aligned delivery roadmap.

Business Architecture

• Finalise Business Capability Model
• Align business capabilities to strategy priorities and transformation initiatives

Data Architecture (with Data Architect)

• Enterprise Data Architecture and target platform design
• Data flows, source-to-target mappings, and integration patterns
• Data governance framework and business glossary/catalogue

Application & Integration Architecture

• Application portfolio catalogue
• Application rationalisation and consolidation strategy
• Integration strategy (API-first), guidelines, and decision frameworks

Technology & Security Architecture

• Technology uplift plan
• Revised Cyber Security Strategy and uplift roadmap

Standards, Governance & Assurance

• Define EA standards and guardrails across architecture domains
• Embed Architecture Review Clinic
• Provide architecture support and assurance to programmes and projects
• Define non-functional requirements for delivery
• Recommendations for further governance enhancements to support future technology investment decisions.

Cross-Cutting Guidance

• AI tooling guidelines and guardrails
• Integration and architecture decision frameworks

EA Capability Establishment

• Embed governance processes and decision-making structures
• Support organisational adoption of EA practices
• Lay foundations for sustainable EA capability beyond the contract

Skills & Experience

• Experience conducting rapid assessments of current technology and data architecture, identifying duplication, gaps, and opportunities to consolidate (building on existing capability assessment progress)
• Experience providing tactical guidance for projects and procurement decisions as new governance arrangements are established.
• Proven track record in enterprise architecture within complex organisations within Public Sector.
• Strong experience in system consolidation, integration design, and technology governance.
• Ability to translate strategic aims into practical architecture principles and decision frameworks.
• Confident engaging with both technical teams and senior non-technical stakeholders.
• Skilled in balancing short-term tactical needs with long-term strategic direction.
• Skills, knowledge and experience in:
  • Microsoft Azure, Databricks and associated data platform technologies
  • Approaches to best-practice data governance and management of unstructured data
  • CRM and case management consolidation
  • Application integration approaches
