What does a cloud architect contractor do?
Cloud Architect contractors design the technical blueprint for how organisations use cloud platforms. The role is strategic rather than hands-on: you define landing zone designs, network topologies, identity and access management frameworks, disaster recovery strategies, and the governance models that ensure cloud environments remain secure, compliant, and cost-effective as they scale. Clients hire cloud architect contractors when they are planning a migration, redesigning their cloud estate after an initial adoption that has become unwieldy, or establishing a multi-cloud strategy. The day-to-day involves producing architecture documentation, conducting design reviews, advising engineering teams on implementation patterns, and engaging with senior stakeholders to align cloud strategy with business objectives. A cloud architect contractor is expected to have deep expertise in at least one hyperscaler platform and a working knowledge of the alternatives.
What is the market like for cloud architect contractors?
