Summary: The GIS Coordinator is responsible for planning and surveillance activities related to public health, focusing on communicable diseases and health resources. This role involves engaging with various stakeholders, managing GIS project deliverables, and utilizing geospatial data for analysis and visualization. The coordinator will also lead the Public Health Geographics team and ensure adherence to data governance best practices. Proficiency in GIS software and project management is essential for success in this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Regularly engage with stakeholders and partners at the GIO, other agencies, state/local health departments, private sector, etc.
- Manage GIS team project work deliverables and deadlines through the use of project management skills (communication, organization, metric tracking, etc.)
- Serve as team leader/point of contact for the Public Health Geographics team under the Data Products program in the Office of Data & Analytics
- Utilize data governance best practices, especially those related to GIS products
- Familiarity with how to utilize GeoAI (or ability to learn the skill)Provide geostatistical analysis, measurements or reports related to communicable disease surveillance, outbreaks, disasters and public health preparedness activities.
- Create and maintain visualizations of data and statistical results.
- Creates and maintain accurate geospatial datasets.
- Develop and maintain workflows that integrate datasets and automate analytical methods.
- Develop web-based applications utilizing both configurable services and customized development.
- Utilizes appropriate geographic information system software and other statistical packages.
- Provides recommendations to supervisors and developers regarding data workflow methodology.
- Assists the IDOH DOC when activated with logistical support.
