Solutions Architect - Edinburgh

Posted 1 week ago by Lorien

Summary: The role of Solution Architect focuses on supporting a Scottish public sector digital transformation programme by engaging with various stakeholders to develop practical, delivery-ready solutions. This hands-on position requires collaboration with public sector organisations to understand existing systems and create clear implementation guidance. The role emphasizes a delivery-oriented approach rather than a purely strategic or advisory one. Occasional travel is required, and the contract is initially for six months with the potential for extension.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engaging directly with public sector stakeholders across organisations of varying digital maturity to understand current (as-is) processes, systems, and constraints
  • Working collaboratively to define feasible, delivery-ready future (to-be) approaches
  • Exploring and shaping solution options at pace, balancing technical feasibility, data standards, and operational realities
  • Designing and documenting integration patterns, API and data exchange approaches, and identity management/matching solutions
  • Producing high-quality implementation guidance, templates, and reusable components
  • Taking ownership from initial stakeholder conversation through to finished written output

Key Skills:

  • Demonstrable Solution/Technical Architecture experience within the Scottish public sector
  • A genuinely hands-on delivery track record - not limited to high-level design or governance
  • Strong experience translating as-is/to-be stakeholder needs into practical, deliverable solutions
  • Experience producing clear, structured technical documentation and guidance artefacts (playbooks, patterns, implementation guidance)
  • Comfortable working at pace in ambiguous, discovery-led environments
  • Cloud computing, API design and management, web services
  • Enterprise and systems integration patterns
  • Data architecture, data modelling, and master data management
  • Identity and data matching approaches
  • Cyber security principles
