Summary: The Senior Cloud Engineer will lead the design, delivery, and optimization of cloud infrastructure, platforms, and services. This role requires a combination of technical expertise and leadership skills to build secure, scalable, and reliable cloud solutions while supporting engineering teams and driving continuous improvement. The engineer will also be responsible for ensuring high availability of services and improving automation processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain secure cloud infrastructure and services.
  • Lead cloud engineering projects, ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable, and cost-effective.
  • Support the migration and optimisation of services into cloud environments.
  • Manage cloud platforms, operating systems, applications, and integrations.
  • Improve automation, monitoring, performance, and operational processes.
  • Ensure security controls, compliance standards, and best practices are embedded into solutions.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and support incident resolution.
  • Work closely with software engineers, architects, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to other engineers.
  • Contribute to Agile ways of working and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Skills:

  • Strong experience designing and supporting cloud-based solutions.
  • Experience with major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Cloud migration and infrastructure optimisation experience.
  • Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM/Bicep).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
  • Experience managing enterprise infrastructure and cloud services.
  • Experience implementing cloud security controls and best practices.
  • Knowledge of monitoring, alerting, performance optimisation, and incident management.
  • Understanding of networking concepts including connectivity, Firewalls, DNS, and load balancing.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions and influence stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and sharing technical knowledge.
  • Comfortable working in Agile environments.
  • AWS/Azure professional certifications are desirable.
  • Experience working in large enterprise or public sector environments.
  • Experience designing cloud architectures.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, containers, or serverless technologies.
  • Experience working with security frameworks and compliance requirements.
