Summary: The role of Senior Data Architect involves leading the design and delivery of enterprise-scale data solutions within a regulated financial services environment. This hands-on position requires collaboration with engineering teams and business stakeholders to shape modern data architecture and ensure successful implementation. The architect will also produce technical documentation and drive best practices across data architecture and engineering. The position is based in London and operates in a hybrid working model.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design end-to-end enterprise data architecture for large-scale data lake and operational data store (ODS) solutions.
- Lead solution design across distributed data platforms hosted on AWS.
- Define scalable, secure and high-performing data architectures.
- Work closely with engineering teams to ensure architectural designs are successfully implemented.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand and refine complex data requirements.
- Produce architecture artefacts including solution designs and technical documentation.
- Review solution designs and provide technical governance across delivery teams.
- Support Agile delivery by breaking solutions into iterative deliverables.
- Drive best practice across data architecture, integration and engineering.
- Identify technical risks and contribute to solution estimation and planning.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience as a Senior Data Architect or Data Solution Architect within large enterprise environments.
- Strong hands-on experience designing distributed data platforms and enterprise data solutions.
- Extensive experience with Cloudera CDP/CDH or similar Big Data platforms.
- Strong experience designing data lake and operational data store (ODS) architectures.
- Experience with AWS cloud services.
- Expertise working with large-scale structured, unstructured and streaming data.
- Experience with technologies including: Apache Spark, Kafka, Cassandra, HBase.
- Strong ETL and data pipeline experience using tools such as: Apache Airflow, Apache NiFi.
- Strong programming skills in Java, Python or Scala.
- Experience with API integration, streaming technologies and Change Data Capture (CDC).
- Excellent understanding of modern data architecture principles and engineering best practices.
